SHARP – Romania

Bine ați venit! Welcome to Romania! In the heart of Transylvania, you can find the world famous Codex Aureus or, as it is also known, Das Lorscher Evangeliar in Alba Iulia (held at Batthyaneum Library http://www.bibnat.ro/Batthyaneum-Branch-s75-en.htm). Book history (“istoria cărții”) is actually an underdeveloped field in Romanian scholarship although real progress has been made in the last 10 years. Since 2004, for instance, The National Library of Romania has been publishing The Romanian Book History Journal (“Revista română de istorie a cărții”). It is also important to acknowledge the existence of a Centre for the History of the Book (CODEX) founded by Dr. Adrian Papahagi in 2007 (http://codex.centre.ubbcluj.ro), as part of Cluj-Napoca’s Babeș-Bolyai University (Faculty of Letters).
